The bomb was found lying some one metre underground at a local farm
The bomb contains over 80 kilos of explosives and has an M906 detonator that should be detonated on-site to ensure safety. As it was estimated to have a blast radius of 1.5 kilometres, local authorities had to evacuate nearly 100 households in the surrounding area before conducting the bomb's detonation to ensure their safety.

Quang Tri Provincial Military Command has successfully handled 201 bombs over the past two years, including four that had to be detonated on site.
Lying in the central region of Vietnam, Quang Tri Province suffered the most bombings throughout the American War that lasted from 1955 to 1975, with nearly 82 percent of its area contaminated by unexploded ordnance. It has seen over 3,400 deaths and 5,100 injuries from UXO since the war ended in 1975.
Around 800,000 pieces of unexploded ordnance have been dealt with in the area thanks to the help of several non-governmental organisations.
The province targets becoming the first locality nationwide to be free from wartime bombs, mines and UXO by 2025.
