Vietnamese overseas tourism has seen a sharp rise after the Covid-19 pandemic was brought under control.

Nhu Thi Ngan, General Director of Hanoi Tourism Joint Stock Company, said that tours to Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, South Korea and Dubai were best sellers.

Since June 1 this year, travellers in group tours from Vietnam arriving at Yangyang International Airport can stay in South Korea for up to 15 days without a visa. However, the tourists must also be booked through travel agencies recognised by the embassies of each country.

A representative from a travel firm in Hanoi said that his company organised weekly tours of Japan every week and was preparing trips for the Lunar New Year holiday.

TST Tourist has seen a recovery rate of 90 percent in its outbound tour area, mostly focusing on Southeast Asia, America, the US, South Korea and Japan. The rebound is expected to grow stronger by late this year and 2024.

Meanwhile, outbound tours accounted for half of Vietravel’s total revenues in the third quarter of this year against 66 percent before the pandemic.

The Japan National Tourism Organisation reported that Vietnamese tourists were second in terms of numbers behind visitors from South Korea, with 191,500 in the first nine months of this year.

Between January and August this year, Vietnam ranked fifth in terms of the number of tourists to Singapore with 124,000.

Thailand served 324,000 Vietnamese travellers between January and October this year, making Vietnamese the fifth most common visitors during that period.
