Many trees in Hanoi are dying of suspected poisoning.

On some streets in the city centre, many dead trees have been left for a long time, affecting the environment and posing threats to local people.

A large milk flower tree on The Giao Street has died.

Its roots had been covered by concrete which is believed the main reason for its death.

According to the municipal department of construction, they've asked the Green Park Company to cut the top and branches of all the dead trees down to avoid them falling on passers-by.

It is said that local people poisoned the trees which blocked the view of their houses and shops.

It is suspected that the trees were poisoned by boiling water and kerosene.

Lawyer Diep Nang Binh said that trees are public assets so people would be subject to fines if found destroying them.
