Le Thi Thoa, 44, in Trieu Son District’s Nong Truong Commune is taking care of her eight-month-old daughter Tran Mai Hoa at the Vietnam National Children's Hospital in Hanoi.
Hoa, Thoa’s second child, was diagnosed with biliary atresia when she was just two months old. The disease severely affected her liver functions, causing her eyes and skin to turn yellow.

According to doctors, the baby needs a liver transplant as soon as possible but her weight must be at least eight kilos.
Currently, the family depends on Hoa’s father’s monthly income of VND7 million (USD294.11).
Over the past six months, the couple has been seeking to borrow money from different sources to cover the hospital fees for their daughter. Now, the family’s debts have reached more than VND100 million yet their daughter’s condition has not improved.
"We’ve sold every valuable we’ve got. But the liver transplant would cost at least VND250 million,” Hoa added.
Dao Huy An, head of Village 2, said that Thoa’s family was among the poorest in the locality. He hoped that they would receive support from donors.
