According to Vo Van Hung, chairman of Quang Tri People’s Committee, at the second energy forum between Thailand and Vietnam which took place in Bangkok on October 6, the Thai Ministry of Energy announced a halt to the Quang Tri 1 Thermal Power Plant.

The EGAT International Co., Ltd project was licensed in 2013, but to date, the 450-hectare-site in Dong Nam Economic Zone has remained untouched, affecting the locality’s socio-economic development.
Capital-related difficulties as well as the project’s environmental impacts were among the reasons for the halt.
The project was designed to have a capacity of 1.320 MW and two turbines. It was approved to be run as a BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) project.
