A 3.2-magnitude earthquake struck the northern mountainous province of Son La’s Moc Chau District early this morning.

A 3.2-magnitude earthquake struck the northern mountainous province of Son La’s Moc Chau District early this morning.

According to the Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Centre, the incident occurred at around 1:37 am on Thursday.

Duong Cong Tieu, a local resident, said that he and other members of his family were startled by the earthquake which hit while they slept. They clearly felt the shaking of their beds.

On July 20, 2020, Moc Chau District saw a 5.2-magnitude earthquake which affected many surrounding localities.

Dr Nguyen Xuan Anh, Director of the Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Centre said that several strong earthquakes previously happened in the northeastern region, including a 6.7-Richter Scale earthquake in Son La in 1982 and another measuring 5.3 on the Richter Scale in Dien Bien Phu City in 2001.
