The closure which is scheduled to last from March 1 to September 9, is intended to provide sufficient time to build a runway, apron, 15-metre-wide taxiways and technical infrastructure facilities.

The package is part of the airport expansion project proposed by the Airports Corporation of Vietnam. Its construction is scheduled to be finished on September 9.
Once completed, the airport will be able to serve A320/A321-sized aeroplanes.
After being expanded, the airport’s capacity is expected to be raised by 200,000 to 500,000 passengers.
