Police in Vietnam seize gold that was illegally brought into the country from Cambodia.
Lieutenant General To An Xo, Chief of the Ministry of Public Security Office announced on Thursday that they had raided the gold smuggling ring that had brought 198 kilos of gold into Vietnam on September 28 and 29. The ring leader and suspects were identified.
"We seized 103 kilos of gold, over USD2.8 million and VND26.7 billion (USD1.1 million) along with relevant equipment, devices and evidence," he said.

According to Lieutenant General To An Xo, it was a giant gold smuggling ring related to numerous suspects in many provinces and cities across the country and had been operating for a long time.
The suspects bought US dollars and then used that money to purchase gold in Cambodia for import into Vietnam.The ministry is coordinating with the Supreme People's Procuracy of Vietnam to evaluate the evidence, identify and confirm the role of different suspects, further invest the case and seize evidence.
