The event organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs celebrated the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Austria and Vietnam (December 1, 1972 - December 1, 2022). The opening ceremony saw the attendance of Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, Vietnamese Ambassador to Austria Nguyen Trung Kien, Acting Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Europe Department, Do Minh Hung, representatives of related departments under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and officials of the Vietnamese Embassy in Austria.

The two-day event is intended to contribute to tightening the friendship and co-operation between the two countries, promoting trade and economic ties, but also introducing the unique character of Vietnamese culture to the Austrian public.

Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son cut the ribbon to officially open the Vietnam Cultural Space, co-chaired the ceremony of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and delivered the opening remarks at the Austria-Vietnam Business Forum.

The Vietnam Cultural Space will provide the public with an overview of the 50-year friendship and partnership between Austria and Vietnam, featuring an exhibition of 34 photos of mutual official high-level visits. It will also offer participants a chance to experience Vietnam’s unique culture, such as Vietnamese tea, Dong Ho folk painting, lacquer painting, traditional musical instrument performance, and an Ao dai fashion show.

Speaking at the event, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son said “The world we are living in is facing tremendous global challenges, such as climate change, food and energy security…, which have had enormous impacts on our countries’ security and development. In that context, I believe that Vietnam and Austria, on the basis of our traditional friendship and partnership, will further strengthen bilateral and multilateral co-operation so that we can fulfil our commitment at the COP 26 UN Climate Change Conference, and jointly build a world of peace, stability and sustainability”.

Following the Vietnam Days in Austria 2022, the Vietnam Days in India 2022 is projected to be held from November 3-4 in New Delhi to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties. After that, the Vietnam Days in South Korea 2022 will take place from the end of November to the beginning of December to celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

Viet Nam Days Abroad is an annual national promotional programme, assigned by the Prime Minister to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2010. The programme usually takes place on the sidelines of official visits to other countries.
