Tuyen Quang proposes airport construction

The northern mountainous province of Tuyen Quang has proposed adding Na Hang Airport to the national airport development plan until 2050.

The northern mountainous province of Tuyen Quang has proposed adding Na Hang Airport to the national airport development plan until 2050.

Under local authorities’ recommendation, the airport would be located in the sparsely populated and flat terrain of Nang Kha Commune. The location is also near roads 279, 2C and 280, which connect to the neighbouring provinces of Ha Giang, Cao Bang and Bac Kan.

Na Hang Airport would cover a site of 350 hectares to serve both civil and military aviation purposes.

The project would be divided into two phases. The first until 2030 to be carried out under a public-private partnership would serve domestic, international, rescue and military flights. In the second phase scheduled after 2030, Na Hang would be upgraded.

To date, the national airport development plan until 2050 includes Dien Bien Airport in the northwestern region. Some other northwestern airports namely Lai Chau, Sapa, Na San and Cao Bang have also been proposed to be added to the plan.

By 2030, Vietnam is expected to have 28 airports, including 14 serving international routes, and 31 airports by 2050.
