Nguyen Van Truong, a resident in Dong Hai 2 Ward, said that the plant had operated in the locality for nearly 20 years and during that time, the locals had lived with persistent air, noise, and water pollution.
Every day, people had to face chemical fumes from the company. Hundreds of tonnes of scrap paper in the company’s yard also poses a major fire risk.
The company previously pledged to stop its operation and move its facilities to Tien Lang Industrial Park. But it has failed to keep its promise.
Dong Hai 2 Commune People’s Committee Chairman Nguyen Duc Long chaired a meeting with people over the issue on September 5.
According to Long, the company initially was slated to be relocated to Tien Lang Industrial Park in July 2022, but the local authorities allowed the delay in the relocation until the third quarter of 2024.
Police attended the area on September 6 to ensure public order.
