A 4.7-magnitude earthquake has hit the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum, shaking some houses in the neighbouring province of Quang Nam.

A 4.7-magnitude earthquake has hit the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum, shaking some houses in the neighbouring province of Quang Nam.

The incident happened at around 2 pm on August 23 at a depth of 8.2 kilometres in Kon Plong District.

The earthquake shook several houses in the neighbouring province of Quang Nam’s Nam Tra My District. People in other districts of Quang Nam such as Bac Tra My and Dai Loc districts also clearly felt the shake.

Ngo Tan Lac, chairman of Tra Cang Commune in Nam Tra My District, said that “Lots of people tried to run away. This has been the biggest earthquake I have ever witnessed. Luckily, no one has been reported injured”.

More than 170 earthquakes with a magnitude of 2.5 or higher have happened in Kon Plong District in Kon Tum since April last year. There have been more than 20 earthquakes measuring 2.5 to 4.5 on the Richter Scale over recent days.
