The information was given in a report of the municipal people’s committee to review the city’s fire prevention and control activities between 2018 and 2021.

A fire in Cau Giay District, Hanoi
The report indicated that in the 2018-2021 period, Hanoi witnessed 1,333 fires, including 19 serious cases. The fires left 38 dead and 82 others injured and caused a loss of VND272 billion (USD11.72 million). Most of the incidents are related to electricity-related problems.
Notably, up to 2,921 works in the city had not met the approved fire safety standards despite being put into use. These works are facing a total of 9,466 problems related to fire safety. Among those, 541 have been suspended for severe violations, while hundreds of others have been fined. The violators have been requested to deal with the problems to ensure fire safety requirements.
The city needs to install 6,882 additional fire hydrants and 343 new tanks. Currently, the city has 3,482 fire hydrants, mostly concentrated in inner-city districts.
