Workers queue to complete procedures to go abroad in Quang Nam Province

Speaking at a recent meeting with the local Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, vice chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee, Tran Anh Tuan, said that they planned to send 5,000 workers abroad, particularly to Japan and South Korea, from 2022-2025.

More than 2,200 people in the province worked abroad between 2019 and 2021, of which over 95 percent went to Japan, with the remaining five percent working in South Korea, Taiwan, Germany and some other countries.

This year, 616 people in the province had gone to work overseas as of August 15, or 61.60 percent of the year's plan. Of the number, over 500 went to Japan, accounting for over 85 per cent.

"The increase in the number of people working abroad has helped improve the lives of many families in the localities such as Thang Binh, Dai Loc, and Que Son districts," Tuan said. "And they will become good sources of workers with higher skills and qualifications when they return home following the contracts."

The official, however, said that the province still lacked people with good working and foreign language skills to meet the needs of overseas employers. He urged the local department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to improve the quality of vocational training in the area.
