Two die crossing railway in Ninh Binh

A woman and her child died after being hit by a train while driving a motorbike across the railway in Ninh Binh Province on Monday.

The Ninh An Communal People's Committee in Hoa Lu District announced on the afternoon of August 8 that the accident occurred at 4.20 pm at a railway crossing in the area.

"Nguyen Thi Thu, 35, was carrying her 11-year-old son Nguyen Danh on her motorbike across the track which runs along Highway 1A at that time," the committee said. "Due to a lack of attention, they were hit by a running train and died on the spot."

There were no fences, nor lights or staff working at the railway crossing where the accident occurred.

Accidents at railway crossings are common in Vietnam. Most of these accidents occurred due to a lack of attention by drivers or pedestrians when passing the level crossings that are illegally opened by local people.
