Besides the growth in pig numbers so far this year, other kinds of livestock such as cattle have also increased. This year, the country's total productivity of different kinds of meat would be seven million tonnes. Around 18.4 billion eggs and 1.3 million tonnes of milk will be provided in the market, meanwhile.

Tien said that MARD had arranged forces to border provinces to inspect pig smuggling to China. With tighter control, pig smuggling via border gates had been tackled. However, the illegal pork trade continued.

MARD also reported that animal feed prices had fallen, which was among the reasons behind reduced pork prices. In reality, pig prices had recently dropped to VND69,000 from VND75,000 per kilo.

Deputy PM Le Minh Khai previously asked the ministries of agriculture and rural development, industry and trade, finance and localities to develop solutions to ease pork prices.
