Two blue whales are seen coming off the coast of Phu Cat District in the southern coastal province of Binh Dinh on July 26.

Chairman of Cat Khanh Commune People's Committee, Dinh Thanh Tien, said on Tuesday afternoon that the two blue whales had been seen at De Gi the same morning.

"The two blue whales were estimated at over 12 metres long and 15 tonnes in weight each," the official said. "They stayed here from 8 am-11 am then swam away."

A tourist guide, Do Thanh Toan, also said that he saw the whales while guiding a group of visitors to the De Gi-Vung Boi area on Tuesday morning.

"The two whales were hunting a large school of anchovy," he said. "All the tourists and I were very excited to see them. Some other tourist guides told me that the whales were present in this area two or three days ago."

Tien said that blue whales rarely visit the area.
