Vietnam destroyed around 36,516 pigs infected with African swine fever between January and June this year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s Department of Livestock Production.
The department reported that these pigs were from 47 cities and provinces nationwide.
By the end of June this year, the country’s total number of pigs increased by 3.8 percent on-year, generating a total live pig output of 2.12 million tonnes, up 5.7 percent on-year.
Compared to the first half of last year, the number of communes and wards having pigs infected by African swine fever dropped by 1.5.
At present, there are some 138 African swine fever outbreaks in 62 districts of 21 cities and provinces, affecting 9,867 pigs.
In the first half of this year, Vietnam also destroyed 58,480 chickens and ducks contracting the avian flu viruses A/H5N1 and A/H5N6. Meanwhile, 400 buffaloes and cows were also culled because of being infected with lumpy skin disease.
