According to the witnesses, the whale weighed around 10 tonnes. It might have drifted into the forest several days before, but local fishermen had stayed at home over the past few days to attend a major festival so it was only this morning that it was detected.
The whale had started decaying, causing a bad smell.
A representative from Quan Lan Commune said that the locality held a funeral for the whale this afternoon.
Several whales were previously stuck on Quan Lan Island but were all rescued.
