Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa, director of the municipal tourism department, told a recent meeting that the local tourism industry had continued upgrading infrastructure, developing more products as well as promoting the demand for MICE (meeting, incentive, convention, exhibition) tourism from both Vietnamese and foreign customers.

"The city has cooperated with Vietnamese agencies abroad to promote its MICE policies to the world," she said.

Some famous tourist sites in the city such as Dam Sen Cultural Park, Suoi Tien Park, Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden, Ao Dai Museum and Cu Chi Tunnel have seen a rise in tourist numbers.

A representative from Park Hyatt Saigon Hotel said that the room coverage rate in the city had reached around 80 percent. The situation would be brighter from now to the year-end.

The occupancy rate of the Silverland hotel chain’s four-star rooms was nearly 92 percent in June, including 30 percent rented by local travellers.

The HCM City Tourism Association reported that around 60-70 percent of its members had resumed operations. However, those specialised in serving international tourists have still experienced a modest recovery.

One of the biggest difficulties for the tourism industry is staff shortages as after the pandemic, lots of people have turned to other jobs.
