The surcharge will be applied from July 6 with some services including GrabFood, GrabBike, GrabMart, and GrabExpress.
According to the company, users in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City will pay an additional VND 5,000 hot weather surcharge for each GrabBike ride and each GrabFood, GrabMart order. This surcharge for GrabExpress service is VND 3,000 per order.
In some other localities such as Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Vung Tau, Binh Duong, Dak Lak, Dong Nai, Can Tho and Hue, the surcharge for hot weather with GrabBike and GrabFood services is VND 5,000. The surcharge will be added directly to the fare shown on the receipt when the driver picks up the ride.
The company said this surcharge is to help support and encourage drivers to work during the summer weather amid rising number of drivers refusing to work during this time.
Grab and other taxi companies are facing challenges to retain drivers amid recent rising petrol prices. Customers in Hanoi and HCM City are having to wait longer to be served.
