Son gave the information at the Routes Asia 2022 held in Danang on Tuesday. The event provides a platform for policy-makers from the region's airlines, airports, tourism authorities and aviation stakeholders to come together to develop network strategies and ensure future air service development across Asia-Pacific.

Passengers at Noi Bai International Airport
According to Son, in 2019, Vietnamese airports served 116.5 million passengers, including 41.7 million foreigners. However, the figure dropped to 65.3 million and 30.3 million passengers in 2020 and 2021 respectively due to being impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The pandemic has been brought under control, so the number of passengers through local airports would reach 70-80 million this year, including roughly 10 million foreigners.
So far this year, the passenger number through Vietnamese airports was estimated at 40.7 million, up 56.8 percent on-year, including 1.8 million foreigners.
The country’s airports handled a total of 765,000 tonnes of cargo during the period, up 30.6 percent on-year. The figure has been forecasted to be at 1.5 million tonnes this year.
