Work on the bridge in Qui Lan 6 Village in Vinh Thanh District’s Thanh Quoi Commune was started on May 22. The bridge will replace the current one which has been seriously deteriorated after being used for more than 10 years.

The ground-breaking ceremony saw the participation of Can Tho City Vice Party Secretary and Chairman of the municipal people’s council Pham Van Hieu and Director of the city’s Department of Information and Communications, Huynh Hoang Men.

Delighted local residents came to the construction site early in the morning.
The bridge is 22 metres long and four metres wide with a total investment of around VND420 million (USD18,103) including VND300 million from Dantri/DTiNews Newspaper. The remainder of the funding came from local residents.
Pham Thi Anh from Qui Lan 6 Village said that the new bridge will help create more favourable conditions for local people to travel, particularly children going to school.

On this occasion, the newspaper granted scholarships to poor students in Thanh Quoi Commune.
According to Pham Van Hieu, Vice Party Secretary and Chairman of the municipal people’s council, this is the second bridge built by Dantri/DTiNews Newspaper in Can Tho. He expressed his great thanks to the newspaper and donors who helped build the bridge.

At the event, Editor-in-Chief of Dantri/DTiNews Newspaper Pham Tuan Anh said that to date, the newspaper has helped build facilities for 42 schools and 24 bridges across Vietnam, including 12 bridges in the southwestern region.
