According to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, the lowest temperature in northern localities would be between 20-23 degrees centigrade from May 13. Several mountainous areas would see lower temperatures of 16 degrees centigrade.
During that time, many northern areas would experience strong winds and downpours.
"This cold weather is a rare phenomenon in May which has not been seen in the past 40 years," the centre said.
Heavy rains have been going on in some northern central localities from the evening of May 8 and are expected to last until May 11.
