Vietnam continues seeing falling daily Covid-19 infections

The number of new Covid-19 infections continued to drop with 2,269 cases recorded on Sunday, down 1,077 cases from the previous day, according to the Ministry of Health.

According to the ministry's report, most of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 51 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (338), Nghe An (140), Tuyen Quang (135), Phu Tho (129), and Quang Ninh (120).

As of Sunday evening, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to over 10.67 million. The country now stands 12th among 227 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include Hanoi (1,591,431), HCM City (608,729), Nghe An (482,633), Bac Giang (385,799), and Binh Duong (383,517).

On May 8, an additional 2,288 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to over 9.32 million.

On Sunday evening, one death related to Covid-19 was announced in Tay Ninh Province, raising the number of fatalities in Vietnam to 43,056.

Vietnam on May 7 administered 188,703 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to over 215 million.
