The number of new Covid-19 infections continued to drop in Vietnam with 8,813 cases recorded on Sunday, down 1,553 cases from the previous day, according to the Ministry of Health.
According to the ministry's report, most of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 60 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (970), Bac Giang (540), Phu Tho (511), Quang Ninh (495), and Nghe An (442).
As of Sunday evening, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 10,563,502. The country now stands 12th among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include Hanoi (1,540,742), HCM City (608,010), Nghe An (479,585), Bac Giang (383,704), and Binh Duong (383.191).
On April 24, an additional 4,581 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 9,086,075.
On Sunday evening, a further nine deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 43,013. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Can Tho (2), Dak Lak (2), Quang Ninh (2), Bac Lieu (1), Dong Thap (1), and Kien Giang (1).
Vietnam on April 23 administered 397,919 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to over 212.39 million.
