Nguyen Anh Phuong, 31, in Hon Quan District’s Thanh An Commune is taking care of her 12-year-old son, Cao Thanh Trung at HCM City’s Children 2 Hospital. Trung experienced a tragic traffic accident while travelling with his smaller sister on his bike two weeks ago. His sister died and Trung is still in hospital being treated for serious injuries.

Phuong said that a truck hit her children when it was trying to avoid a car that was travelling in the opposite direction. The driver then tried to run away but was then held by local residents.
Trung was hospitalised and is still in a deep coma. Doctors said that he only had around 30 percent chance of survival. He has also experienced skin surgery. To date, the total hospital fees for Trung have reached VND67 million (USD2,887).
The mother added the driver’s family was also very poor, so he had not yet paid any compensation to the family.
According to doctors, once escaping critical condition, it would take her 1-2 years of rehabilitation, but in the meantime, the family cannot even afford the treatment fees.
