Lots of damage can be seen on the pavements of many streets in districts 1 and 3 including Ton Duc Thang, Nguyen Cong Tru, Dong Khoi, Hai Ba Trung, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Le Thi Hong Gam, Dien Bien Phu, Vo Van Tan, Pham Ngoc Thach, and Nguyen Dinh Chieu. The paving stones have been broken, creating large holes with rainwater inside.
The pavement on Ton Duc Thang Street has been dug up for an underground cable line project.
The stagnant project has caused lots of inconvenience and danger for pedestrians who often have to walk down the crowded street to avoid the piles of soil or large holes on the pavement.
A German tourist and his wife walk on the pavement of Le Thi Hong Gam Street which has subsided, leaving many large holes. He said that Vietnam was the first country he visited after a long pandemic. "I love to walk along the streets in HCM City to watch local life," he said. "But I have to be very careful because the pavements are sometimes rough."
A lot of paving stones are broken on Chu Manh Trinh and Nguyen Thai Hoc streets.
According to local people, one of the causes of the quick deterioration of local street pavements is that many motorbikes travel on the pavements during rush hours.
Many pavements are also encroached by local shops and food stalls.
The pavements on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai and Cach Mang Thang Tam streets have been repaired with different kinds of paving stones, which badly affects their appearance.
The streets in HCM City are under the management of local districts, however, the issue of deteriorating pavements has lasted for many years.
