Two fishermen have gone missing and more than 20 fishing vessels have sunk following heavy rains and high waves which hit a fishing village in the southern central province of Phu Yen on Tuesday night.

A local man, Nguyen Van Long in Long Thuy Fishing Village,Tuy Hoa City said that heavy rains and strong winds lasted from Tuesday evening until Wednesday morning.
"The winds became stronger this morning," Long said. "And many fishing boats started to capsize and sink as the waves rose up to two and three metres."

Chairman of the Phu Yen Provincial People's Committee, Tran Huu The said that they have sent rescue teams to help evacuate local fishermen and protect their properties.
"We are still searching for two fishermen who went missing during the night," the official said. "More than 20 boats sunk with some completely wrecked"
The central and Central Highlands regions of Vietnam have been forecasted to witness heavy rains from March 30 to April 2.
