Authorities in the central province of Quang Nam are investigating the use of lasers that have been shone onto several flights at Chu Lai Airport.
The information was given by Vo Van Dong, chairman of Binh Son District People’s Committee.
According to Chu Lai Airport, lots of flights on the HCM City-Chu Lai route have experienced people pointing laser at the airplane's right side. The cases have occurred in the area next to Binh Son District.
The laser attacks when flights take off or land, have seriously threatened aviation safety, so Chu Lai Airport has asked management agencies to investigate the incidents.
The airport is located in Nui Thanh District which is adjacent to Quang Ngai Province.
Chu Lai Airport is slated to be upgraded to an international airport under a Ministry of Transport master plan for airport development in the 2021-2030 period with a vision to 2050 recently submitted to the prime minister.
Under the plan, Chu Lai will be among 14 international airports to be developed in the next 10 years.
