Vietnam confirmed an additional 158,305 Covid-19 infections on Saturday, raising the national tally to 8.91 million, according to the Ministry of Health.

According to the ministry's report, most of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in all 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (9,623), Phu Tho (4,679), Nghe An (4,362), Bac Giang (4,000), and Yen Bai (3,995). The northern province of Nam Dinh today added 55,179 more cases to the national tally.

As of Saturday evening, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 8,919,557. The country now stands 14th among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include Hanoi (1,250,016), HCM City (590,349), Nghe An (373,065), Binh Duong (371,063), and Hai Duong (334,282).

On March 26, an additional 164,553 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 5,166,117.

On Saturday evening, a further 62 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 42,258. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Ca Mau (11), Binh Dinh (7), Binh Duong (4), Danang (4), Tra Vinh (4), and Phu Yen (3).

Vietnam on March 25 administered 295,149 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to over 204.86 million.
