Vietnamese airports witnessed an on-year increase in foreign passengers in the first quarter of this year.

Vietnamese airports witnessed an on-year increase in foreign passengers in the first quarter of this year.

According to the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV), between January and March, local airports served around 321,000 international passengers, up 176 percent against the same period of last year.

By late March, Vietnam had reopened flights to Bangkok, Doha, Dubai, Guangzhou, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, Istanbul, Kuala Lumpur, London, Manila, Moscow, Paris, Phnom Penh, San Francisco, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney, Taipei, Tokyo, and Vientiane.

But the country has not yet resumed flights to Brunei, Finland, India, Indonesia, Italy, Macau, Myanmar and Switzerland.

The country has fully reopened its tourism sector since March 15. During the week of March 15-21, Singapore Airlines ranked first among airlines conducting flights to Vietnam with 45 return flights, up two against the previous week.

Flights from Danang to Singapore, Taiwan and South Korea have been planned to be reopened from April.

Meanwhile, in the January-March period, international cargo being transported through airports is anticipated to soar by 21.2 percent compared to the same period in 2021 to reach 292,000 tonnes.

In the first quarter, Vietnam’s airlines served around 13 million domestic passengers.
