Speaking to Dantri/Dtinews on Monday morning, a representative of the Sa Pa Town People's Committee said that the serious landslide occurred at 10.30 am on March 20 at 25 Hoang Lien Street in Phan Si Pang Ward.
The landslide lies next to a hotel project that is under construction," the representative said. "A 35-metre long stretch of Hoang Lien Street has collapsed. Four other neighbouring houses have been affected. Fortunately, no one was injured."
According to some local residents, the contractor of the hotel project earlier dug between 15-20 metres deep into the soil for the construction of the foundations. They failed to build a proper embarkment at the site.``
The landslide has also badly affected water mains and the electricity lines in the area, which are being repaired.
The hotel project has been suspended for investigation.
