Under the recommendation sent to local authorities, passengers using the Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro line would have to pay between VND9,000-23,000 (USD0.39-1) for a one-way ticket, compared to the previously-proposed level of between VND7,000-21,000.

Trains for the Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro project are imported from Japan
The agency has suggested one-day and three-day passes of VND46,000 and VND104,000 respectively without limiting the number of trips.
A monthly pass is sold at VND320,000 for normal passengers, while the price is just VND160,000 for students.
Children under six, the elderly and the disabled will be offered free travel on the line.
According to the HCM City Management Authority for Urban Railways, the proposed tickets are around 78 percent more expensive higher than buses.
In the initial operational phase, Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro project is expected to serve roughly 68,000 passengers per day.
The project has a total investment capital of VND43.7 trillion sourced from the Japanese ODA and HCM City’s reciprocal capital. It is scheduled for operation in the fourth quarter of next year.
The HCM City Department of Transport has recently proposed a VND118.5-billion (USD5 million) project to link local bus routes with the Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro line.
