The Vietnamese Ministry of Health on Thursday reported an additional 358,965 Covid-19 infections, raising the country's patient tally to over 7.17 million.
According to the ministry's report, most of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in all 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (25,311), Nghe An (10,511), Lao Cai (9,574), Phu Tho (7,867), and Bac Ninh (5,020). The two northern provinces of Vinh Phuc and Hai Duong today added 24,975 and 155,878 more infections respectively to the national tally.
As of Thursday evening, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 7,174,423. The country now stands 20th among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include Hanoi (916,456), HCM City (577,598), Binh Duong (353,583), Nghe An (315,448), and Bac Ninh (247,391).
On March 17, an additional 135,683 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 3,685,988.
On Thursday evening, a further 76 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 41,683. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (7), Dong Nai (6), Nam Dinh (5), Gia Lai (4), Hai Duong (4), Kien Giang (4), Phu Tho (4), and Quang Ninh (4).
Vietnam on March 16 administered 349,781 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to over 201.07 million.
