The Vietnamese Ministry of Health on Saturday reported an additional 173,258 Covid-19 infections, raising the country's patient tally to over 4.23 million.

According to the ministry's report, most of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in all 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (25,013), Bac Ninh (7,161), Nghe An (6,460), Son La (4,228), and Phu Tho (3,864). Two northern provinces of Phu Tho and Thai Nguyen today also added 33,144 and 8,297 new infections respectively to the national tally.

As of Saturday evening, 4,225,053 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country last April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (548,041), Hanoi (365,456), Binh Duong (308,418), Bac Ninh (135,181), and Quang Ninh (122,442).

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 4,232,520. The country now stands 21th among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.

On March 5, an additional 26,566 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,616,002.

On Saturday evening, a further 82 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 40,726. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (12), Quang Ninh (8), Danang (7), Nam Dinh (5), Thai Nguyen (5), Khanh Hoa (4), and Nghe An (4).

Vietnam on March 4 administered 964,471 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to over 197.27 million.
