At around 9 pm on Thursday, Phan Thiet Provincial Coast Radio Station received the information from a Russian-flagged cargo ship that it rescued two people who had fallen into the sea in the area some 25 nautical miles from Cape Ke Ga. The two had clung to plastic containers to survive.

This morning, March 4, the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center of Region II received the two people Huynh Ngoc The, 37, and Nguyen Thanh Ha, 42, both from La Gi Town in Binh Thuan.

According to the two, they were crew on board fishing boat BTh 99458 TS from Binh Thuan. There were five people on the boat. When operating roughly 25 nautical miles from Cape Ke Ga the ship faced rough waves and capsized.

Three other crew members remain missing.

Binh Thuan authorities are conducting a search operation.
