The Vietnamese Ministry of Health on Thursday reported a record number of 176,150 Covid-19 infections, raising the total number of patients in the country to over 3.88 million.
According to the ministry's report, most of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 62 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (18,661), Nghe An (6,152), Bac Ninh (5,648), Quang Ninh (3,956), and Nam Dinh (3,801). Two northern provinces of Hai Duong and Thai Binh today also added 29,360, and 28,000 new infections respectively to the national tally.
As of Thursday evening, 3,878,220 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (541,987), Hanoi (319,048), Binh Duong (301,609), Dong Nai (101,825), and Tay Ninh (96,555).
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 3,885,631. The country now stands 30th among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On March 3, an additional 33,740 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,550,525.
On Thursday evening, a further 95 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 40,547. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (20), Hai Duong (7), Thanh Hoa (6), Dak Lak (5), Dong Nai (5), and Ha Giang (5).
Vietnam on March 2 administered 376,284 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to over 195.67 million.
