Work starts on Sapa Airport

Construction has kicked off on the VND6.94 trillion (USD301.72 million) Sapa Airport project in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai.

Construction has kicked off on the VND6.94 trillion (USD301.72 million) Sapa Airport project in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai.

The project invested under the form of public-private partnership covers a 371-hectare site in Bao Yen District.

 

The ground breaking ceremony of Sapa Airport is held on March 3.


The project’s first phase includes the construction of International Civil Aviation Organisation 4C grade Sapa Airport with a capacity of 1.5 million passengers per year.

Phase two, which will begin in 2028, will finalise other components to raise the airport’s capacity to three million passengers per year.

At the ceremony, Nguyen Trong Hai, vice chairman of Lao Cai Province, said that “Once completed, the airport is expected to boost Lao Cai’s socio-economic and tourism development and the whole northwestern region."

The airport with nine parking areas will be able to serve aircraft Airbus A320, A321 and equivalents.
