Vietnam has confirmed a record number of 98,762 Covid-19 infections on Tuesday, raising the total number of patients in the country to over 3.55 million, the Ministry of Health has reported.
According to the ministry's report, 98,743 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in all 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (13,323), Quang Ninh (4,011), Bac Ninh (3,933), Nghe An (3,864), and Lao Cai (3,398). The northern province of Ha Giang today also added 15,382 new infections to the national tally. There were 19 imported cases confirmed the same day.
The new infections showed an increase of 4,367 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 66,861 infections found in the community.
As of Tuesday evening, 3,550,249 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (536,115), Binh Duong (298,294), Hanoi (285,273), Dong Nai (101,399), and Tay Ninh (90,932).
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 3,557,629. The country now stands 30th among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On March 1, an additional 40,932 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,479,883.
On Tuesday evening, a further 86 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 40,338. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (20), Thai Nguyen (6), Danang (5), Hai Duong (5), and Ninh Binh (5).
Vietnam on February 28 administered 1.57 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to over 194.97 million.
