Vietnam has confirmed a record number of 94,385 Covid-19 infections on Monday, raising the total number of patients in the country to over 3.44 million, the Ministry of Health has reported.
According to the ministry's report, 94,376 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 61 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (12,850), Quang Ninh (9,105), Nghe An (3,958), Bac Ninh (3,572), and Hung Yen (3,309). The northern province of Quang Ninh today also added 28,095 new infections to the national tally. There were nine imported cases confirmed the same day.
The new infections showed an increase of 7,410 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 66,227 infections found in the community.
As of Monday evening, 3,436,124 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (534,093), Binh Duong (297,448), Hanoi (271,950), Dong Nai (101,236), and Tay Ninh (90,425). Vietnam has so far confirmed 205 Omicron-infected cases.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 3,443,485. The country now stands 30th among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On February 28, an additional 27,039 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,438,951.
On Monday evening, a further 108 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 40,252. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (21), Danang (10), Quang Nam (5), Quang Ngai (5), Thanh Hoa (5), and Vinh Phuc (5).
Vietnam on February 27 administered 203,673 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to over 193.62 million.
