An additional 86,990 new Covid-19 infections were confirmed in Vietnam on Sunday and the northern province of Phu Tho added 14,838 more cases to the national tally, the Ministry of Health has reported.
According to the ministry's report, 86,966 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 61 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (11,517), Quang Ninh (5,997), Lang Son (4,960), Hung Yen (3,225), and Bac Ninh (3,037). There were 24 imported cases confirmed the same day.
The new infections showed an increase of 8,996 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 58,680 infections found in the community.
As of Sunday evening, 3,313,653 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (532,303), Binh Duong (297,055), Hanoi (259,100), Dong Nai (101,130), and Tay Ninh (90,175). Vietnam has so far confirmed 205 Omicron-infected cases.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 3,321,005. The country now stands 30th among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On February 27, an additional 35,866 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,411,912.
On Sunday evening, a further 94 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 40,144. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (17), Nam Dinh (7), Bac Giang (5), Binh Dinh (5), Thanh Hoa (5), Ninh Binh (4), and Quang Binh (4).
Vietnam on February 26 administered 125,533 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to over 193.40 million.
