An additional 77,982 new Covid-19 infections were confirmed in Vietnam on Saturday and the northern province of Thai Nguyen added 20,894 more cases to the national tally, the Ministry of Health has reported.
According to the ministry's report, 77,970 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 61 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (10,783), Nghe An (3,985), Vinh Phuc (2,995), Hung Yen (2,962), and Tuyen Quang (2,737). There were 12 imported cases confirmed the same day.
The new infections showed a decrease of 804 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 64,285 infections found in the community.
As of Saturday evening, 3,211,849 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (530,334), Binh Duong (296,256), Hanoi (247,583), Dong Nai (101,051), and Tay Ninh (89,934). Vietnam has so far confirmed 205 Omicron-infected cases.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 3,219,177. The country now stands 30th among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On February 26, an additional 20,427 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,376,046.
On Saturday evening, a further 88 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 40,050. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (24), Danang (5), Nam Dinh (5), Tra Vinh (5), Binh Dinh (4), Ha Giang (4), and Hai Phong (4).
Vietnam on February 25 administered 384,509 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to over 193.27 million.
