Vietnam has confirmed a record number of 69,128 Covid-19 infections on Thursday, raising the total number of patients in the country to over 3.04 million, the Ministry of Health has reported.
According to the ministry's report, 69,119 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 62 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (8,864), Bac Giang (4,171), Hai Duong (2,948), Son La (2,860), and Phu Tho (2,596). There were nine imported cases confirmed the same day.
The new infections showed an increase of 8,781 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 48,179 infections found in the community.
As of Thursday evening, 3,034,211 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (526,059), Binh Duong (295,221), Hanoi (226,964), Dong Nai (100,814), and Tay Ninh (89,549). Vietnam has so far confirmed 205 Omicron-infected cases.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 3,041,506. The country now stands 30th among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On February 24, an additional 19,062 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,339,784.
On Thursday evening, a further 111 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 39,884. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (26), Danang (8 ), Thai Nguyen (7), Dak Lak (5), Nghe An (5), and Quang Ngai (5).
Vietnam on February 23 administered 629,342 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to over 192.67 million.
