Nearly 47,000 more Covid-19 infections confirmed on Monday

An additional 46,880 Covid-19 infections were confirmed in Vietnam on Monday, raising the total number of patients in the country to over 2.83 million, the Ministry of Health has reported.

According to the ministry's report, 46,861 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 62 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (5,477), Bac Ninh (2,582), Phu Tho (1,908), Quang Ninh (1,898), and Thai Nguyen (1,862). There were 19 imported cases confirmed the same day.

The new infections showed a decrease of 331 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 32,975 infections found in the community.

As of Monday evening, 2,827,112 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (520,790), Binh Duong (294,139), Hanoi (203,821), Dong Nai (100,537), and Tay Ninh (89,115). Vietnam has so far confirmed 205 Omicron-infected cases.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,834,373. The country now stands 32nd among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.

On February 21, an additional 13,235 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,294,669.

On Monday evening, a further 104 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 39,605. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (35), An Giang (5), Kien Giang (4), Quang Binh (4), Quang Nam (4), and Vinh Long (4).

Vietnam on February 20 administered 294,753 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to over 191.66 million.
