Additional 41,980 Covid-19 infections confirmed on Saturday

An additional 41,980 Covid-19 infections were reported in Vietnam on Saturday, raising the total number of cases confirmed in the country to over 2.74 million, according to the Ministry of Health.

According to the ministry's report, 41,968 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 61 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi ( 4,869), Bac Ninh (3,040), Quang Ninh (1,990), Hoa Binh (1,871), and Thai Nguyen (1,852). There were 12 imported cases confirmed the same day.


The new infections showed a decrease of 459 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 29,831 infections found in the community.

As of Saturday evening, 2,733,059 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (519,144), Binh Duong (293,700), Hanoi (193,242), Dong Nai (100,476), and Tay Ninh (88,988). Vietnam has so far confirmed 200 Omicron-infected cases.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,740,293. The country now stands 32nd among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.

On February 19, an additional 6,840 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,268,020.

On Saturday evening, a further 65 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 39,423. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Danang (9), Hanoi (5), Hoa Binh (4), Kien Giang (4), and Thanh Hoa (4).

Vietnam on February 18 administered 711,894 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to over 190.91 million.
