Cao Ba Quy, deputy head of Lao Cai’s border gate management board, said that Hekou Border Gate would be quarantined for Covid-19 prevention. This means customs clearance for Vietnamese goods were halted from February 17.

Lao Cai’s border gate management board has been asked to inform relevant agencies and businesses about the suspension.

At present, around 160 trucks have been stranded at Kim Thanh Border Gate. Most of them transport farm produce such as bananas, dragon fruits, watermelons and coffee.

China previously suspended customs clearance at many border gates with Vietnam as part of its measures to prevent and contain Covid-19.
