The Health Ministry on Thursday reported 36,200 new coronavirus cases, raising the total number of patients in the country to 2,643,024.
According to the ministry's report, 36,190 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 62 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (3,888), Thai Nguyen (2,497), Hai Duong (1,598), Quang Ninh (1,536), Hai Phong (1,487), and Phu Tho (1,332). There were 10 imported cases confirmed the same day.
The new infections showed an increase of 1,467 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 25,345 infections found in the community.
As of Thursday evening, 2,635,814 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (517,580), Binh Duong (293,356), Hanoi (183,824), Dong Nai (100,319), and Tay Ninh (88,904). Vietnam has so far confirmed 200 Omicron-infected cases.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,643,024. The country now stands 34th among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On February 17, an additional 5,810 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,254,965.
On Thursday evening, a further 90 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 39,278. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (19), Danang (8 ), HCM City (4), Nam Dinh (7), Kien Giang (6), and Binh Thuan (5).
Vietnam on February 16 administered 2.73 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 189.76 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, including over 75.74 million people having received two doses and over 34.14 million people having received three doses.
