Vietnam has continued to report rising Covid-19 infections with 34,737 more cases confirmed on Wednesday, according to the Ministry of Health.
According to the ministry's report, 34,723 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in all 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (3,888), Thai Nguyen (2,497), Hai Duong (1,598), Quang Ninh (1,536), Hai Phong (1,487), and Phu Tho (1,332). There were 14 imported cases confirmed the same day.
The new infections showed an increase of 2,936 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 25,026 infections found in the community.
As of Wednesday evening, 2,599,624 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (517,097), Binh Duong (293,277), Hanoi (179,931), Dong Nai (100,228), and Tay Ninh (88,867). Vietnam has so far confirmed 198 Omicron-infected cases.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,606,824. The country now stands 34th among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On February 16, an additional 6,882 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,249,155.
On Wednesday evening, a further 66 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 39,188. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (15), Thanh Hoa (10), Danang (5), Quang Nam (4), and Vinh Long (4).
Vietnam on February 15 administered 413,574 doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 186.89 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, including over 74.80 million people having received two doses and over 32.84 million people having received three doses.
