The creature, which weighs 50 kilos and is about 70-80 centimetres long, was found stuck in fisherman Nguyen Truong Tuyen’s net in the Lam River.

Tuyen immediately took the turtle ashore and informed local authorities. The animal was then defined as a rare and endangered species.
This morning, Nghi Xuan District Forest Range Bureau released the turtle back into the wild.
On the same day, a 50-kilo olive ridley turtle was caught stranded in the net of a fisherman in the central province of Quang Tri’s Trieu Lang Commune.
It was then also set free.
